FAQ:

We are open Monday through Friday from 7AM to 6 PM and on Saturday from 8AM to noon. We are closed on Sunday. The veterinarian typically works from 9AM to 6PM, with a lunch break at mid-day.
Call our office for instructions. At night, on weekends and holidays, when we are closed, we refer our patients to North Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Buford, who can be reached at 678.835.3300, or to BluePearl Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, who can be reached at 770.277.8600.
While your pet may not have a particular disease, if not properly vaccinated it could be a carrrier or pick up the disease from somebody else's pet. We do whatever it takes to protect your furry family member, and ensuring proper vaccination protocols is probably the best way to help us achieve that goal. Unlike many other places, we will not allow vaccinations on the same-day of visit because doing so would be shirking our responsibility to keep your pet safe. All vaccines have an incubation period before they become effective and so you must wait for that minimum period of time to elapse before your boarding or grooming visit. We would never chase profits over your pet's safety.
For the same reason that your own personal doctor requires you to have bloodwork each year, and you have the ability to talk! Your pet cannot tell us how it feels, and bloodwork is probably the best tool that we have to determine if your dog or cat is having issues or not. Importantly, even if your pet is not having issues it is important to have a bloodwork baseline established so that we can make a better diagnosis should your pet ever become ill.
Simply put - everything that is typically needed for the procedure is already included. The price quoted will include IV catherization, IV fluids, bloodwork, pain medication and antibiotics, if required. You will get an estimate in advance for all treatments at Lanier Animal Hospital, from surgery to simple wellness visits, and, unlike many other places, we do not upsell. To us, good medicine in not a negotiatable area and we would encourage you to question the motivations of any place that offers you medical options when your furry family member needs surgery.
Rest assured, at Lanier Animal Hospital we always have given - and always will give - the total costs in advance. You will get an estimate for all treatments, from surgery to simple wellness visits. The only time our prices will deviate from our estimates is if complications arise, and even that will be discussed with you in advance.
Definitely. Just like human medicine changes as we get older, your pet's medical needs also change as he or she gets older. Regular checkups should occur every 6 months for pets 7 years and older and are very helpful in catching problems early. The bloodwork panel will include different tests than younger animals would get, and almost all senior pets require some type of dental care on a regular basis. On some pets, we may recommend chest x-rays, abdominal ultrasound, and an EKG.
Here, of course! Unlike many places, though, we allow grooming by appointment. Scheduled appointments help allow you to schedule your day and also ensure that your pet doesn't sit unnecessarily in a cage waiting for the groom or for you to pick her up after the groom. As an extra bonus, every groom comes with a free facial. Please call us to schedule your appointment.
A thorough physical exam, which includes examining the mouth and teeth for dental disease and tumors, examining the eyes, the retina (located at the back of the eyeball), the ears, the lymph nodes, checking the heart for murmurs, listening for abnormal lung sounds, and palpating the abdomen for lumps. It also includes taking the pet's weight, temperature, heart and respiratory rates, and noting any changes from the last visit. Lastly, we will talk to you about your pet's habits and evaluate the need for certain vaccines. For most cats we recommend the feline distemper vaccine, the feline leukemia vaccine, and the rabies vaccine. We also do bloodwork, screen for internal parasites via a microscopic fecal exam, and for cats considered to be "at risk", an annual Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS (FIV) blood test.
